The campaign seeks to raise £25,000, with an initial generous contribution of £10,000 from the Foundation itself. This leaves a critical £15,000 gap that requires community support to ensure the continued operation of this essential hub.

The Portland Centre serves as a bustling community hub, welcoming hundreds of users weekly, offering a diverse range of support services and has done for over 100 years. Among its regular patrons is the Mencap Me Time group, which relies on the centre as a base for their activities. For them and countless others, The Portland Centre is not just a place to exercise but a vital lifeline to community engagement and connection.
Sam Crawford, Chief Financial Officer of Notts County Foundation, underscores the gravity of the situation, stating, “The Portland Centre is more than just a building; it’s a lifeline for many in our community. Without these necessary repairs, we risk losing a vital space that countless individuals depend on for support, exercise, and a sense of belonging.”
The Mencap Me Time group, a community dedicated to supporting individuals with learning disabilities, has found a home at The Portland Centre. The group not only benefits from the centre’s facilities but also utilises it as a space to foster a sense of belonging and camaraderie. Without The Portland Centre, these individuals would face the prospect of losing their community and a place to engage in meaningful activities.
Emma Trent, Chief Operating Officer, emphasises the role of community support in securing the centre’s future: “We are incredibly grateful for the initial contributions from the public in support of our Raise the Roof campaign, but we need the community’s help to bridge the remaining gap. Every donation, no matter the size, contributes to the preservation of The Portland Centre and its invaluable services.”
