With the support by the Premier League, we are excited to share our upcoming projects and plans that celebrate and champion equality, diversity and inclusivity.
With a focus on underrepresented groups, particularly the South Asian community and individuals with disabilities, these projects are designed to create a welcoming atmosphere at Meadow Lane and beyond.
Such initiatives are made possible through the Premier League Fans Fund. These grants support football clubs at all levels of the game to strengthen connections between them, their fans, and local communities.
One of these projects is the introduction of dedicated football sessions for South Asian women and girls at Meadow Lane. In collaboration with the Sport and Inclusion and Health teams, sessions aim to foster a supportive environment that prioritises both physical and mental well-being. Participants will not only engage in football but will also have the opportunity to share their experiences and suggestions, ensuring that their voices are heard in shaping future programming.
Despite the increasing popularity of football among women in the UK, South Asian female footballers remain underrepresented. This initiative looks to change that narrative, encouraging more women and girls from the South Asian community to step onto the pitch and enjoy the sport they love.
In a bid to strengthen connections with the South Asian community, the Foundation will be using its newly furnished hospitality box at Meadow Lane. This space will host guests from the South Asian community, providing a safe and comfortable environment to enjoy Notts County FC matches. By working closely with community partners, the Foundation aims to create a sense of belonging and engagement through these experiences.
A recent highlight was the Open Iftar event hosted in partnership with Muslim Hands, which brought together members of the South Asian Muslim community. Attendees offered invaluable insights into their cultural practices, dietary needs, and safety concerns, allowing the Foundation to tailor matchday experiences that are culturally sensitive and inclusive.
Notts County Foundation is equally committed to supporting individuals with learning difficulties and disabilities. Earlier this year, the Foundation launched a SEND Easter Programme, offering a tailored experience for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). This initiative included a variety of activities aimed at enhancing social skills and building confidence in a supportive environment, ensuring that every child could participate fully and enjoy shared experiences.
This was in addition to the United for Access initiative, which focused on creating an enjoyable matchday experience for all fans, especially those with disabilities. One of the highlights of this programme is providing young SEND children the unique opportunity to play a match of football on the pitch during half-time. This not only makes for a memorable experience but also emphasises the Foundation’s commitment to inclusivity.
As Notts County Foundation continues to champion inclusivity, we are actively collaborating with the Disabled Supporters’ Association to identify and create more opportunities for individuals with impairments and disabilities. These ongoing efforts demonstrate the Foundation’s dedication to fostering an accessible and welcoming environment for all fans.
With the support of the Premier League and community partners, Notts County Foundation is paving the way for a more inclusive future in football, where everyone, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or ability, can participate, enjoy, and feel at home in the beautiful game.
