The Captain’s Corner Award, presented by Notts County Foundation, recognises individuals and groups whose dedication to community, resilience, and positive action enriches the lives of others.
This year, the Foundation has had the privilege of celebrating remarkable individuals whose stories inspire, uplift, and reflect the true spirit of our club and charity. Here’s a look back at the winners of the Captain’s Corner Award in 2024.
Miles Green | On the Ball
Miles Green kicked off the year by becoming the first recipient of the Captain’s Corner Award for 2024. A loyal supporter of Notts County, Miles is known for his consistent presence at home games and active participation in the Foundation’s On The Ball sessions at The Portland Centre. His dedication to both the club and the community has earned him the admiration of players and fellow supporters alike. Miles’ unwavering commitment embodies the spirit of community and passion that defines the club.
Oscar and Kayleigh
Oscar and his mother Kayleigh were recognised for their incredible resilience in the face of adversity. Oscar has bravely dealt with bullying at school, while Kayleigh has been battling leukaemia. Despite these challenges, their bond remains unbreakable, and they continue to support their beloved Notts County. The Foundation honoured them for their strength, which has served as an inspiration to many within the community, reinforcing the importance of unity and support during tough times.
Cynthia and Deryk Flowers | Right Mind and NCFC
Cynthia and Deryk Flowers acts of kindness and dedication to community service stood out. Cynthia’s involvement in the Right Mind programme has transformed her life and inspired others, while Deryk’s 30-year service as a steward at Notts County, coupled with his enduring passion for the club, exemplifies resilience. Their combined efforts showcase the positive impact family can have, making them deserving recipients of the award.
Melvyn Watson | NCFC
Melvyn Watson, a true County legend, was awarded for his tireless work supporting Notts County fans. For decades, Melvyn has been the mastermind behind the organisation of away travel for supporters, creating camaraderie and a sense of belonging among fans. His dedication to the club spans generations, and even after the passing of his beloved wife Christine in 2022, Melvyn found solace in the community at Meadow Lane. His commitment to the club and its fans mades him a fitting recipient of the Captain’s Corner Award.
Michael Harrison | NCFC
Michael Harrison, Notts County’s long-serving statistician, was awarded the Captain’s Corner Award for his dedication to preserving the club’s history. A constant presence at Meadow Lane for over 25 years, Michael meticulously documents every match and statistic, providing invaluable records for both fans and the media. His passion for the club and its rich history has made him an integral part of the Notts County family.
Laura Cameron | Disability and Inclusion
Laura Cameron was given the award for her pioneering work in reintroducing the Disabled Supporters Association (DSA) at Notts County. Through her efforts, the DSA has not only enhanced the matchday experience for disabled supporters but has also fostered inclusivity within the club. Her vision and commitment to creating a welcoming environment for all have already made a significant impact, making her a deserving recipient of the award. Kyle Ward and Oliver Seagrave | Epic Partners
Kyle Ward and Oliver Seagrave, Sport and Activity Coaches from Epic Partners, were honoured for their outstanding contributions to the community. Through their work with young people in Nottingham, Kyle and Oliver have been instrumental in providing mentorship, sports activities, and personal development opportunities. Their commitment to enriching the lives of young people exemplifies the values of community, service, and compassion.
Stephanie Fu | Portland Centre
Stephanie Fu, Secretary and Head Coach of Nottingham Casualties Volleyball Club, was named the Captain’s Corner Award recipient in the summer. Stephanie was recognised for bringing Sitting Volleyball to Nottingham, making the sport more accessible to people with physical impairments. Through her passion for sport and inclusion, Stephanie has helped create a positive space for disabled individuals to participate in sport, while also raising the profile of disability sport in Nottingham at the Portland Centre.
Dylan Robinson
The final award of 2024 was given to 16-year-old Dylan Robinson, whose courage and generosity have been a beacon of inspiration. Despite battling a rare form of cancer and undergoing chemotherapy, Dylan remains a devoted Notts County supporter. His dedication to the club and his fundraising efforts for cancer charities demonstrate an unwavering commitment to others, even in the face of adversity. Dylan’s matchday experience at Meadow Lane was a small token of appreciation for his strength, resilience, and generosity.
The Captain’s Corner Award continues to celebrate individuals and families who demonstrate remarkable strength, dedication, and community spirit. Each of this year’s winners has made a lasting impact, not only on Notts County but on the wider Nottingham community. Through their actions, they remind us all of the power of football to unite, inspire, and make a difference in people’s lives.
