Portland Centre exterior gets a spring clean thanks to ENSEK volunteers

Staff and management from local business ENSEK joined Notts County Foundation outside the Portland Centre, where they spent most of the day cleaning the car park and improving the outdoor space around the building.

Based in the heart of the Meadows area, The Portland Centre is easily accessible to people who live locally and offers on site parking facilities as well as ease of access via public transport. As a charity which is passionate about using the power of sport to empower a diverse community, Notts County Foundation want to extend an invitation to anyone and everyone within the local area to come and benefit from the centre’s excellent facilities.

With the building and car park in constant use, naturally time has taken it’s toll with the need for some extra TLC. Keen to understand more about the work of Notts County Foundation and learn about the importance of the Portland Centre, ENSEK saw this as a great opportunity to offer their support to the wider-communities.

Transformed: A large skip helped ensure the Portland Centre could get the big outdoor clean-up

The ENSEK team gave up their time and put in a huge effort to create a clean space and make the area welcoming and inviting to those that attend sessions at the Portland Centre.

They immediately got to work; collecting rubbish, trimming plants and clearing the bays of the car park. Very quickly, the transformation was becoming clear, with all volunteers doing their part to make a difference.

Andy Smith, Head of Billing and Industry Ops at ENSEK said; ”We cleared the car park and made a big difference to the appearance of the centre. The thing that pleases me the most is seeing a group of people together making that visible difference and supporting a charity. It means a lot to people and it’s nice to see what we have achieved.

We are Notts-based ourselves and it’s important to get stuck in with local projects. I am always impressed to see the work here at the Portland Centre and if we can help in just a small way then that’s great”.

ENSEK provide leading SaaS software in the energy industry, creating a unique combination of tailored solutions for clients and customers. They run a number of volunteering days across their business, allowing staff to get involved directly with communities.

Marie Tennant, Head of Smart Operations at ENSEK also said; ”It’s been a fabulous day and a real eye-opener to what NCF do for the community. The difference within the groups, including the programme that supports women’s mental health is huge. 20-odd years ago, you may not see a project like this… it feels it could be people’s lifelines coming here.  Our volunteer days at ENSEK is just our way of giving back to the community”.

Hard work paid off: clear paths and greenery surround the Portland Centre

12 members of staff attended the big clean, including Billing Team Manager, Billy and Smart Operations Team Leader, Nicole. Both were very quick to put their name down to support Notts County Foundation and blown away by the support on offer to communities at Portland. Billy said; ”I wanted to get involved in volunteering where I felt I could have an impact. Most of us said yes straight away to support NCF. The Portland staff are so busy inside doing their amazing work. Seeing what they do just motivates us to want to do more.”

Nicole agreed, stating ”As long as we are helping the communities, then we will continue to do what we are doing. It’s been really fulfilling for me here with the NCF team”.

Notts County Foundation and the team at Portland are grateful for the contribution made by ENSEK and look forward to any potential future projects together.
